Edda Cards
I bought these cards some years back. They have a colourful picture of a theme from the Poetic Edda on the front and a full description in French on the back.
The cards were made in 1934 by a company called Liebig and given away with their “Meat Extract” product.

A walking work of art
Another day spent sitting in the jury waiting room and not getting called but something quite interesting did happen.
I had seen a lady, in her 60′s I would say, making sketches during the day, some of people, some of the ornate features of the room.
Well a bit later I caught her looking in my direction and scribbling away. I asked if I could see what she had drawn and she showed me. It was a sketch of the tattoo on my right forearm;
I thought it was pretty good considering the details involved and her distance from me. She asked me about this and my other tattoos and we had a good moan about modern art lol.
A warning from Aesop
“A Man came into a Wood one day with an axe in his hand, and begged all the
Trees to give him a small branch which he wanted.
The Trees were good-natured and gave him one of their branches.
What did the Man do but fix it into the axe head, and soon set to work
cutting down tree after tree.
Then the Trees saw how foolish they had been in giving their enemy the means
of destroying themselves.”

Rebranding the BP Logo
Greenpeace launched a competition to rebrand the BP logo. Some of the results are quite good but I wonder how many hammer and sickles we would see if we rebranded the Greenpeace logo.

The Beginnings
It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late
With long arrears to make good,
When the English began to hate.
They were not easily moved,
They were icy-willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the English began to hate.
Their voices were even and low,
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show,
When the English began to hate.
It was not preached to the crowd,
It was not taught by the State.
No man spoke it aloud,
When the English began to hate.
It was not suddenly bred,
It will not swiftly abate,
Through the chill years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the English began to hate.

7th Son Trilogy
I have been listening to this free audiobook podcast over the last couple of weeks and am really enjoying it. I am currently on the second book of three and there is another offshoot book too.
You can get all 3 books in one package at iTunes by searching for 7th Son Experience or you can find more information at the author’s website.
So, here is the blurb:
So begins 7th Son: Descent, the technothriller novel by J.C. Hutchins. Originally released as a free audiobook podcast, 7th Son has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time.com, Wired.com UK, and on the cover of Blogger & Podcaster magazine. See what critics and bestselling novelists are saying about the book.
As America reels from the bizarre presidential assassination committed by a child, seven men are abducted from their normal lives and delivered to a secret government facility. Each man has his own career, his own specialty. All are identical in appearance. The seven strangers were not born, but grown — unwitting human clones — as part of a project called 7th Son.
The government now wants something from these “John Michael Smiths.” They share the flesh as well as the implanted memories of the psychopath responsible for the president’s murder. The killer has bigger plans, and only these seven have the unique qualifications to track and stop him. But when their progenitor makes the battle personal, it becomes clear John Alpha may know the seven better than they know themselves…
