Strider Issue 33
From my friend, Strider’s column….
From the Havamal
“I know that I hung in the wind torn tree;
Nine whole nights, spear-pierced;
Consecrated to Odin, myself to myself above me in the tree;
Whose root no one knows whence it sprang.”
There is energy around us that we cannot see – this is known to all of us. We know this because every time we turn on the television or radio, we are able to receive signals in the form of deciphered wave patterns.
We are also aware that scientists can only measure a tiny proportion of all the energy in the universe, and that most energy passes us by un-noticed.
Our ancestors knew all about the cosmic energy which permeates our Mother Earth, and they had the means to harness it.
Imagine an amateur radio operator, or a Special Forces soldier operating deep behind enemy lines. In order to receive the correct signal, his radio antenna must be set up in a particular way; its length and shape determining the kind of wave form it can best receive. Also consider the various shaped aerials one sees on the roof tops of houses and on office buildings and radio station headquarters. There are many shapes of aerial designed for optimum results, depending on which of the infinite number of signals and wave forms in existence the operator wishes to receive.
All radios and televisions are doing is tapping in to the energy which passes us by every day without us noticing it. This particular energy has been shaped and designed by man, but what about Nature’s raw energy?
A Rant
As a Professed member of the Odinic Rite I am oath bound to advance the OR and Odinism and I like to think that my web work for the OR goes a long way towards achieving that goal along with other activities such as Guardians etc.
I also have great friends who have also taken the same oath and give all they can to the OR and Odinism. Those who most readily spring to mind for sheer devotion and effort are Heimgest, Asrad, Hyndla and Asrekyr. You may know them, you may not but they devote so much of their personal time (not to mention finances) to the OR.
However I have recently become more and more pissed off with people who have taken the same oath and then done nothing to fulfill their oath or to honour the torc that they wear.
I just can’t get my head around who these people think they are or why they ever wanted to take the oath in the first place. Nobody is forced to take the oath so it is not like there was any pressure for them to do so. I guess it is just that some people think that it will be cool to wear a torc and put OR after their names without ever intending to actually earn those honours. In fact there are very many good folk who have not professed but give so much more time and effort than those who are the subject of this post.
To make matters worse, it is not like anyone can just decide to get professed. A member must have the approval of the Court of Gothar before they can be professed and you can be sure that they do not take the decision lightly and will have been sure that a member will live up to the oath before granting permission. What this means then is that those who are approved and then do nothing have deceived the CG, as well as all OR members and most worryingly, themselves.
As far as I am concerned they are oath-breakers and deserve nothing but contempt.
